Privacy Policy

FestLocator (“we”, “us”) is an interactive map for discovering electronic-music festivals worldwide. You can keep a list of artists you follow (“My Artists”) to see where they’re playing, optionally sign in to sync that list across devices, and submit festivals to the map. This page explains exactly what data we touch and what we do — and don’t — keep.
The short version
- The map works fully without any account — browsing is anonymous.
- Your artist list lives in your browser unless you choose to sign in.
- Signing in is optional and passwordless — we store only your email, your artist list and your saved festivals, so they sync across your devices.
- We never see any password: sign-in uses an emailed link; Mixcloud login happens on Mixcloud’s own site.
- No advertising cookies, no analytics trackers, and we never sell data.
My Artists watchlist
Artists you add — typed in manually or imported — are saved in your browser’s local storage and used on the page to highlight festivals whose line-ups include them. If you don’t sign in, that list never leaves your device; clearing your browser data deletes it.
Importing artists
- Last.fm. If you enter a Last.fm username, our server asks Last.fm for that profile’s publicly listed top artists and passes them back to your browser. We don’t store the username or the result.
- Mixcloud. If you connect Mixcloud, you log in and approve access on Mixcloud’s own site — we never see your credentials. We read only the list of accounts you follow, to add their names to your watchlist. The temporary access token is used for that one request flow on our server and is not stored in a database.
Optional account (sign-in)
If you sign in with your email, we send a one-time login link (no password exists). While signed in we store, on our server: your email address, your artist watchlist, your saved festivals, and your alert preference. This exists solely so your list follows you across devices. A session cookie keeps you signed in.
If artist alerts are on, we email you when an artist on your list is added to a festival line-up. Every alert includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can toggle alerts in the My Artists panel. Your email is never shown publicly and is not used for marketing.
Festival submissions
If you submit a festival through the “Add a festival” form, we store the festival details you provide and your email address. Your email is used only to send a confirmation link and, if necessary, to verify the submission — it is never shown publicly and is not used for marketing. Approved festival details (name, location, dates, line-up, facilities, links) appear publicly on the map; your email does not. We also record the submitting IP address briefly for rate-limiting and spam protection.
Cookies & analytics
FestLocator sets a cookie only for signed-in sessions and during the Mixcloud connect flow — there are no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics, and we never sell data. The interactive map loads map tiles (CARTO / OpenStreetMap), the Leaflet library and a web font from their providers, which may receive your IP address as part of serving those resources, as is standard for any website.
We count page views with our own cookie-less counter, hosted on our server: it records the page, the referring site, the day, and a few coarse, aggregate details your browser already sends with every request — your device type (mobile / desktop / tablet), browser, operating system, and preferred language. It also records an approximate country, which we look up from your IP address on our own server using a local database and then immediately discard the IP — we never store your IP address or send it to anyone. Nothing it records can identify you or follow you across days. It respects your browser's Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals.
Country lookup uses the free IP Geolocation by DB-IP database (CC BY 4.0).
Third-party services
Imports rely on Last.fm and Mixcloud, whose handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies. FestLocator is not affiliated with or endorsed by either service.
Your choices & deleting your data
- Use the map without any account — nothing about you is stored.
- Clear your in-browser list any time with “Clear all” in the My Artists panel.
- Sign out any time; turn artist alerts off in the panel or via the unsubscribe link.
- To delete your account data (email, synced list, saved festivals) or a submission, email us and we’ll remove it.
